Transformation Summary
By streamlining cross-document validations, enabling efficient data-driven testing, and strengthening UI automation, FireFlink helped a leading insurance provider improve testing efficiency, coverage, and release confidence across web and mobile platforms.
Problem Statement
With a number of products & services and close to 500 different branches placed in 980+ cities, the organization is a prominent figure in the insurance business. With millions of active users, the organization has provided insurance services to 21.6 million lives both in individual and group segments. They were listed as the 4th biggest and most trusted forum of insurance services from all over the world. The team has successfully launched multiple pension plans and is the second-largest private pension fund management company in the country.
Testing Implementation
The team primarily provides finance & insurance solutions. They have visionary web & mobile applications that came with challenges from the software testing perspective. Firstly, the Benefit Illustration (BI) calculations & comparisons were presented in two different formats. To sum up, the BI generated from the Excel document needed to be compared to the UI-generated BI, wherein, the UI-generated BI was in the PDF format whereas the other was in Excel format. It is quite tricky and time-consuming to carry out data comparison, and data analysis from two different document formats using the existing test automation approach. Also, the retrieved Excel BI is often in password-protected form and hence the process is challenging. The team also had test scenarios that altered the Excel document length. Several factors like age, sum assured, that the user selects out of various plans like GM, LLI, LI, etc affected the document. Challenges were also faced while transitioning from the online journey to system admin portals since the Java SQL form is usually difficult to test-automate. While carrying out regression tests, the test engineers had to handle a heavy influx of data-driven tests since a lot of documents were generated every time a user performs a test execution. It is also challenging to handle a huge volume of data and perform well-planned tests around it. The web & mobile app also comprises very plan-specific questionnaire that is often present on every page/screen. It is very time-consuming to build a UI element repository for web & mobile applications separately for such a huge UI element-intensive platform. The apps were highly competitive, and underwent frequent UI reskin, which affected the script maintainability altogether.
FireFlink Solution
FireFlink has addressed every testing motive, skilfully using the state-of-the-art functionalities of the product FireFlink. To address the Benefit Illustration(BI) challenge, FireFlink has in-built support, that is available at the click of a button. Comparisons can take place on as many documents, as many times, of as many different formats. We facilitate cross-document test validations that follow simple NLP-based automation scripting techniques which are as easy as jotting down manual test cases. Hence, managing BI test comparisons on data that were in different file formats was an easy endeavor with FireFlink. Should the data maintained in the document, vary at any point, the user simply needs to replace the document in use by making use of the well-defined icons on the screen, which does not hamper your test automation process. FireFlink makes data-driven tests extremely straightforward and easy-going. Upload documents of varied kinds (Excel, CSV, PDF, TXT, Property Files, XML, JSON, JPG, PNG, Different DB Systems, etc), and carry out iterative test automation. We even utilized the in-built NLPs to retrieve data from the feeded documents, directly from FireFlink. Since the Excel BI file was protected, during runtime FireFlink was configured to take a copy of the original BI by comparing the PDF & also highlighting the valid & the invalid data. Capturing & generating UI element locators is always easy with FireFlink. For the client, we had immense locator generation targets for multiple plans across the application. We were able to locate UI elements across 132 pages for nearly 4000 UI elements, for both web & mobile apps in just a matter of 2 days. FireFlink Finder is an easy-to-use tool utilizing which we even dealt with dynamicity amongst UI elements & UI reskins. FireFlink Finder provided multiple optimal locators for every UI element and hence we achieved building a reliable UI element repository.
